Only a healthcare provider can prescribe HBOT. During treatment, the patient rests in a pressurized chamber and breathes medical-grade oxygen for the prescribed treatment time. Session length and number of treatments vary based on the diagnosis, treatment plan, and patient response. As pressure increases, you may feel ear fullness—similar to airplane travel—which can be relieved by swallowing or chewing gum. The extra oxygen circulates through your bloodstream to promote healing in damaged tissues. After a session, you might feel lightheaded, and mild side effects such as fatigue, headaches, or claustrophobia can occur, so it’s best to have someone drive you home. Multiple sessions are usually required.
Take a tour of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment Center.
Our facilities are designed to provide physician-supervised HBOT in a comfortable outpatient setting, using medical-grade, hard-sided chambers, patient screening, safety protocols, and trained staff.
What to Expect
HBOT may be used as part of a medical treatment plan for selected conditions. Treatment recommendations depend on clinical evaluation, diagnosis, medical history, safety considerations, and treatment goals.
What happens during HBOT?
Soft Chambers
Soft hyperbaric chambers – or inflatable “bags” made of polyurethane or canvas material – are often marketed as effective for treating various complex medical conditions. Most of those claims have not been studied or proven.
Hard Chambers
Medical-grade, hard-sided hyperbaric chambers allow patients to breathe physician-prescribed oxygen at controlled treatment pressures. Under pressure, more oxygen dissolves into the blood plasma, which can help deliver oxygen to tissues where circulation or oxygen levels have been reduced.
Our medical team evaluates each patient before treatment to review diagnosis, medical history, safety considerations, and treatment goals. HBOT is generally well tolerated when properly prescribed and monitored, but it is still a medical treatment and potential risks are reviewed before care begins.
